Tea on the Block is a mobile social space welcoming to people from all backgrounds, using tea as a foundation to play, mash things up, and experiment. We’re not selling tea—we’re helping you build everyday well-being. Exploring how different traditions use tea and how we bring it into our daily routines today, these experiences range from quick, street-level pop-ups to immersive multi-hour celebrations, featuring a hands-on element like crafting custom loose-leaf blends, alongside activities like tea ceremonies, cooking and making craft cocktails and mixed drinks with tea, listening experiences, arts and crafts, floral arrangement workshops, and discussions with authors and artists, all creating a relaxed environment where you can explore, create, and enjoy great company surrounded by neighbors.

all the details.

Right now, they start right here at home base at The Cochran Oriental in Houston’s historic Near-Northside neighborhood. But because Tea on the Block is a flexible idea, we see how this concept can easily expand into people’s homes, pop-ups, fairs, and other creative venues down the road.

Not at all. Tea is simply the ingredient that blends it all together, but you do not need to be a fan of the cup to enjoy the food, the creative energy, and the company. Besides, we pour plenty of herbal botanicals—things many folks drink daily for comfort or wellness without even thinking of them as formal tea.

Expect plenty of open socializing, hands-on activities, and shared learning—typically guided by a host who keeps things moving, introduces new ideas, and makes sure everyone feels right at home around the table.

Not at all. To preserve the calm atmosphere of our home and ensure a peaceful environment for our Near Northside neighbors, home experiences are strictly capped at 12 guests. We ask everyone to be mindful of parking and respectful of the neighborhood so we can keep these gatherings intimate, tranquil, and harmonious.

Yes. You can reserve a private Tea on the Block gathering for your own group—such as a bridal shower, baby shower, or corporate outing—with private sessions capped at a maximum of 12 guests. These are fully customized sessions that are not limited strictly to the standard timeframe, and we can easily add additional time if your gathering requires it. Please contact us directly with your preferred dates and group size so we can set up a personalized experience for you.

All events are 21 and older, though guests 18 and older are welcome if accompanied by someone 21 or older, unless a specific event indicates otherwise.
